Patrick “Pat” Young was born and raised in Mercer County, New Jersey where his athletic career began by playing any sport he could get his parents to sign him up for.  Soon, he became a dominant middle school athlete being recruited to prestigious boarding schools all over the nation to play football and lacrosse.  By the time he reached his sophomore year at Christchurch School in Virginia, Pat was recognized as an All-State athlete in both sports.  By his senior year he earned 3 state championships (2 in football 1 in lacrosse) was ranked the #9 overall lacrosse player in his class, named All-American by US Lacrosse and became one of the most highly recruited athletes in the nation for both sports. After deciding to pursue his lacrosse career Pat chose to attend University of Maryland Baltimore County for college.

In 2013, his rookie year, Pat led the team in goals, tied the record for points by a freshman, was the lone freshman named to First Team-All America East, and won America East Conference Rookie of the Year.  After helping lead the program to two consecutive conference championship appearances, Pat transferred to University of Maryland College Park, for his final year of eligibility.  In 2015 he helped anchor one of the strongest 2nd midfield lines in college lacrosse scoring 4 goals against Syracuse in the NCAA Semifinals propelling UMD to the National Championship in 2016. Pat finished his collegiate career with 132 points on 101 goals and 31 assists starting in over 40 of the 62 collegiate games he played in.  Upon graduating he was Selected with the 13th overall pick of the 2016 Major League Lacrosse draft and in three professional seasons played in 21 games tallying 17 points.

After graduating in 2017 he spent a year coaching as an assistant at the University of Maryland before moving on to work with several youth lacrosse programs throughout Maryland, helping provide opportunities for underserved youth.  In 2018 Pat became the head coach at Bishop Ireton and made an immediate impact on the program.  With the motto “raise the bar” and following the coaching philosophy of coaching individuals as opposed to the team in general he has changed the trajectory of the program  in just 3 years. Pat says his goal for the Ireton program is to “ create a positive progressive culture where he uses lacrosse to help build well rounded individuals and a well respected program in the DMV.”
