Kathleen Faherty McNutt, Head of School

Kathleen Faherty McNutt was named Bishop Ireton Head of School in 2019, and she has served the Diocese of Arlington as an educator and school administrator since 2009. She became a student in the diocese at  St. Louis parish in 1977 when her family moved to the area. Mrs. McNutt is a proud graduate of St. Mary’s Academy (SMA ’87), the wife of a Bishop Ireton alum (Geoff '87), and the mother of five Bishop Ireton graduates (Kaitlyn ’14, Megan ’16, Camryn ’18, Morgan ’19, Connor ’22). To top it off, her new son-in-law is an Ireton ’14 grad, and her son-in-law-to-be is BI ’16!
 
Mrs. McNutt graduated Magna Cum Laude from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Developmental Reading, and she obtained her Master of Education degree in Administration and Supervision from Marymount University, with a K-12 supervision and teaching license from the state of Virginia. Before coming to Bishop Ireton High School, Kathleen taught in public and private schools in Fairfax County and Stafford County; she worked for a government contracts law firm in Washington, DC; and she worked for The New Teacher Project Fellows Program. She managed multiple construction projects during her time as assistant principal and principal at St. Louis Catholic School in Alexandria, Va. and was immersed in the new building construction project at Ireton upon arrival. Her engagement in the diocese has included Vice President of the Arlington Diocese Principals’ Association, Member of the diocesan Educational Assessment Committee, Member of the diocesan Covid-19 Response Task Force and Reintegration Working Group, and most recently the diocesan Security Task Force.
 
As Head of School, Mrs. McNutt is the chief executive officer of Bishop Ireton, charged with facilitating the school’s mission and meeting the goals of the school’s long-term strategic plan. She manages all areas of Bishop Ireton’s programming, Catholic identity and Salesian spirituality, fundraising, admissions, marketing and communications, facilities and building projects, financial planning and management, recruitment, alumni relations and athletics.

Dr. Tim Guy, Principal

Dr. Guy became Principal of Bishop Ireton High School in 2021.

After graduating from Mount Saint Mary’s College with a BS in Mathematics, Dr. Guy taught math at Archbishop Carroll High School, George Mason High School and Blyth Templeton Academy. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Virginia Tech and an adjunct instructor at George Mason University. From 2002 to 2013, Dr. Guy served as the Assistant Principal at George Mason High School following a two-year stint as the Dean of Students there. From 2013-2014, he was the Assistant Principal at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School. Since 2018, Dr. Guy has taught math at Bishop Ireton High School and served as chair of the Math Department. Dr. Guy received his M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia and his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech. 

As Principal, Dr. Guy serves as Bishop Ireton’s lead academic officer and manages the day-to-day instructional operations. He oversees the school’s curriculum and faculty, as well as Student Life and Counseling.
