Ireton can't get by Panthers, 73-63

James Berry poured in 21 points and Sese Mobutu added 10, but the seniors couldn't get the Cardinals past top-ranked Paul VI in the quarterfinals of the VISAA Division I playoffs Wednesday in Fairfax. It was the final appearance for the pair in a Cardinal uniform and the campaign ends for the 9th-seeded Bishop Ireton at 15-18.
Tye Thompson had 14 points to join the seniors in double figures, but Paul VI (24-8) was too much for the visiting redbirds. The Panthers broke out to a 20-12 lead and had a 20-point margin at intermission. Ireton closed the gap in the second half, but the Panthers move on to the state semifinals while Cardinals look forward to next year.
