On May 27, we celebrated the Commencement Exercises for the Class of 2022! We were back in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception for the first time since 2019 and we were so grateful to gather and celebrate our wonderful seniors. The packed shrine heard from Bishop Burbidge, Principal Dr. Tim Guy, Head of School Kathleen McNutt, salutatory speaker Riley Lebon and valedictory speaker Aidan Foley.
At graduation, Fr. Don Heet, OSFS, presented the Salesian Medal, considered by the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales to be the highest honor bestowed on any student, to Aidan Foley and Stella Hermann. This honor is given to individuals who have most adhered to the virtues of St. Francis de Sales in spirit, action and attitude.
The Bishop Peter L. Ireton Awards for general academic excellence were presented to Annemarie Mueller who earned the highest grade point average in the Class of 2022 and Andrew Csontos who earned the second highest grade point average in the Class of 2022.
Senior Katie Scolese was given the inaugural St. Thomas More-St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Award. This award, presented to a graduating senior at each diocesan high school, is given to a person who shows "deep love for our Eucharistic Lord, devotion to our Blessed Mother, faithful witness on behalf of the sacredness of all human life and humble service to the poor and those in most need."
