Bishop Ireton Varsity Cardinals Clings to Victory as Riverdale Baptist Nearly Erases 6-Run Deficit

Despite seeing its six-run lead whittled down by the end, Bishop Ireton Varsity Cardinals still held off Riverdale Baptist for a 6-5 victory on Tuesday.  Riverdale Baptist scored five runs in the failed comeback on a double by Smith in the sixth, a single by Bouchcion in the sixth, and a wild pitch during Smith's at bat in the seventh.
Bishop Ireton Varsity Cardinals earned the victory despite allowing Riverdale Baptist to score four runs in the sixth inning.  Riverdale Baptist's big inning was driven by a single by Bouchcion and a double by Smith.
Bishop Ireton Varsity Cardinals got things moving in the second inning, when Aidan O'Brien singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.
Austin Dean was the winning pitcher for Bishop Ireton Varsity Cardinals. Dean lasted five innings, allowing five hits and zero runs while striking out five and walking one.  Colin Nash and Jackson Baker entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.  Nash recorded the last four outs to earn the save for Bishop Ireton Varsity Cardinals.
Harrison took the loss for Riverdale Baptist. The pitcher allowed seven hits and two runs over four innings, striking out two.
Bishop Ireton Varsity Cardinals racked up eight hits on the day.  Baker and Will Kopp all managed multiple hits for Bishop Ireton Varsity Cardinals.  Kopp and Baker all had two hits to lead Bishop Ireton Varsity Cardinals.
Riverdale Baptist saw the ball well today, racking up eight hits in the game.  Smithers and Bouchcion all had multiple hits for Riverdale Baptist.  Smithers led Riverdale Baptist with three hits in four at bats.
