Steady Improvement From Cardinal Softball

Bishop Ireton Varsity Softball faced Bishop O'Connell on April 27.

Facing the top team in the conference will either bring out the best in you or make you take a look at your work ethic. Most importantly, it will show you where you need to improve as a player and what intensity you need to be at, at all times. The first 2 innings went according to plan, with only one run given up in each inning. Pitcher Caroline Fletcher, did a marvelous job by letting the opposing team put the ball in play. The Cardinals are a defensive team and pride themselves on it.

With veteran players and some new to the varsity speed, the game got intense quickly. In the third inning, the Cardinals made one error and it seemed to rattle the team. Ultimately, this led to eight runs given up to the opposing Knights.

With more practice and the younger players gaining more confidence this team has a high sealing with only two seniors on the roster. Coach Pugh said, "I believe with more consistent pitching this team will be a force."
