Civil Rights Icon Joan Mulholland Visits Campus

Last Friday, Joan Trumpauer Mulholland, Freedom Rider and Civil Rights Activist, came to campus to speak with students and faculty during an afternoon assembly.

In 2015, she received the National Civil Rights Museum Freedom Award and was recognized one year earlier by President Obama for her civil rights work and advocacy during the height of Jim Crow. By the age of 23, Mulholland had participated in over 50 sit-ins across the country and marched alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other civil rights leaders. She has taken part in the March on Washington and the Selma to Montgomery March.  Her dedication to protecting the rights of African-Americans and all peoples - regardless of ethnicity, race, or creed - serves as an example of true courage in the modern era.
