Cardinals Outlast Vikings on Senior Night

Congratulations to our nine graduating seniors from our ice hockey team: Stephen Adamksi (Assistant Captain), Peter Firehock, Luciano Mateo, Logan McGeorge, Warren Payne, James Purpuro (Assistant Captain), Robert Purpuro (Assistant Captain), Alex Simuro (Captain), and Brendan Smith.

There was also a guest appearance by former goalie senior Jane Filmonchik, who took to the ice to support the team in one final appearance.

After the ceremony, the Cardinal’s Varsity Hockey team prevailed on Senior Night with an exciting 5-4 victory over the Woodbridge Vikings. The high-spirited affair went back and forth over the first two periods with Coach DiCarlo’s squad answering every Woodbridge score with a Cardinal tally. Thomas Garlock ‘20 scored the first goal with assists from Robert Purpuro ’19 and Stephen Adamski ’19. Graham Kalan ’20 leveled the score at 2-2 with another assist from Robert Purpuro.

Robert then responded to a Viking score with an unassisted goal to even the score at 3-3. The Cardinals then broke the game open early in the third period with a goal by Thomas Garlock assisted by Graham Kalan and another 13 seconds later from Gray McCulloch ’21. A late goal by Woodbridge made for a tense final minute, but with the seniors on the ice, the Cardinals closed out the 5-4 victory. The hockey team will have its first CSHL play-off game Tuesday, February 19, at the Prince William Ice Center. The puck drops at 8:10 p.m. against Forest Park/Hylton.
