The Charity Through Medicine Club at Bishop Ireton collected over 250 pounds of candy as a part of the Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation Halloween Candy Drive.
The drive collects candy for cancer patients in local hospitals throughout the area. The student club has an ongoing relationship with the Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation and has volunteered with the foundation on numerous projects for patients at Georgetown Medstar Hospital.
“It was great to be able to lead the candy drive at Bishop Ireton this year because I felt like I was making a difference in the lives of children with cancer and their families,” said Nancy Pisano ‘20. “Another reason that I personally like to help the foundation is that I went to preschool with Mattie Brown, who the Cancer Foundation is named after, when he was diagnosed with cancer. I like to do this in memory of him. His parents started the foundation to help others who are dealing with everything that they went through.”
Bishop Ireton will partner with Mattie Miracle again in May at the Mattie Miracle Walk and Family Festival on Sunday, May 19.
