Basketball - Girls Varsity
The Bishop Ireton Girls Basketball 2025 Throne High School National Champions are led by head coach and VISAA 2024 Coach of the Year Kesha Walton. The back-to-back VISAA State Champions (2024, 2025) are ranked #6 nationally by ESPN and ranked #1 in the state of Virginia and #3 in the DMV area by the Washington Post.
Leaders on the court have included Nyla Brooks ‘25 and Amirah Anderson ‘25. With 2,000+ points in her high school career and a four-time MVP, Nyla was recognized as the 2025 WCAC Player of the Year, 2024 and 2025 VISAA Player of the Year, 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year, and 2025 McDonald’s All-American. Amirah completed her Bishop Ireton career with 1,000+ points and was named back-to-back to the 2024 and 2025 WCAC All-Conference 1st Team and VISAA All-Conference 1st Team. Several teammates have also been recognized with the WCAC All-Conference Award for 2nd Team and Honorable Mention.
At the collegiate level, Bishop Ireton graduates have continued to play and receive accolades at Boston College, Georgetown University, Rice University, Winthrop University, Barton College, Johns Hopkins University, Randolph Macon College, Washington Adventist University, Bucknell University, Marymount University, University of Pittsburgh, United States Air Force Academy, University of North Carolina, Mississippi State University, University of Pittsburgh Johnstown, Longwood University, Hamilton College, and Shenandoah University.
When not dominating on the court, the girls basketball program adopts a family at Thanksgiving and Christmas, holds a shoe drive, and participates in Project Linus to provide blankets to shelters.
