Bishop O’Connell earned a 71–64 victory over Bishop Ireton, continuing its recent dominance in the rivalry by outlasting the Cardinals in a hard-fought and competitive matchup.
Silas Devonish led all scorers with 29 points, attacking the basket, knocking down timely shots, and carrying the offense through key stretches of the game. Bench contributions from Logan Higginbotham, Wyatt Klein, Elijah Simpkins, and Luke Sparrow helped push a double digit first half lead against the 2nd ranked Knights.
Ireton students showed up in force to help push and support the boys! The team competed on every possession, forced tough shots, and stayed connected as a group, especially during momentum swings and with a difficult crowd. The Knights pulled away in key moments down the stretch to secure the win, showcasing their offensive efficiency and composure late in the game.
With the victory, O’Connell improved to 15–3 on the season and recorded its third straight win, extending its winning streak over Bishop Ireton to seven consecutive games. Bishop Ireton dropped to 11–5 but battled throughout the contest, showing flashes of strong offensive play before coming up just short.
The win keeps O’Connell among the top teams in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and builds momentum heading into upcoming league matchups, while Ireton’s effort reflected its competitiveness despite not being able to fully close the gap in this rivalry game.
