Varsity Highlights

v. St. Mary's Ryken High School

Girl’s Varsity Ice Hockey secured their first win in program history, beating St. Mary Ryken 4-3 at Mt. Vernon.
Addy Soto led the charge for Ireton in the first period, tallying her second goal of the season with a powerful shot from the high slot. Ailish Brink netted the second goal for BI, as she found the back of the net after a great pass from Genevieve Theroux. The Cards found themselves up 2-1 at the conclusion of the first period.

The second period was a masterclass of puck possession and forechecking as freshman Ginny Purkey scored two goals, one assisted by Mia Gabriele, giving Ireton a 4-2 lead heading into the third period.

Ryken made a push in the third period, but the efforts of wingers Charlotte Perkins, Belen Lorenzo y Losada, and Quinn Davis kept the opposition’s chances to a minimum. After allowing a goal in the final minutes of the game, Ireton hunkered down defensively with the help of Claire Tierney and Andi Francis, who shut down the opposition all night to secure the first victory in program history, 4-3. Francis ended the game with 14 saves on 17 shots, and left with her first win as the goalie for BI Girl’s Varsity Hockey.
