Varsity Highlights

v. DC International School

Despite what the scoreline may suggest, the Bishop Ireton Varsity Boys Soccer team delivered one of their most spirited and complete performances of the season in their 5–2 loss to DCI on Senior Night. Missing two key starters—Sophomore standout Max Schneeberger and captain Travis Mulder—the Cardinals still showed immense quality, control, and fight against a DCI side they had lost to 4–0 in last year’s Senior Night fixture.
From kickoff, Bishop Ireton dictated the tempo and displayed confident, aggressive soccer that has become the hallmark of Coach Clement’s program. The first half saw the Cardinals dominate large stretches of play, with both Ian Mohr and Gavin Mohr finding the back of the net to give Ireton a 2–1 lead heading into halftime.

The opening goal came from Senior Ian Mohr, who stunned the crowd with a 35-yard left-footed strike that sailed over the DCI keeper—a spectacular effort, and one of the highlights of the season. Moments later, Junior Gavin Mohr doubled the lead after receiving a clever through ball, dribbling past both the keeper and a defender before calmly slotting home.

DCI managed to pull one back before the break, but the Cardinals looked poised and composed. Unfortunately, early in the second half, momentum swung when Ian Mohr was shown a second yellow card—a controversial and arguably harsh decision that left BI playing the remainder of the match with ten men. Down a player and without two of their regular starters, the Cardinals battled bravely but eventually conceded four more as fatigue set in.

Still, the performance reflected the identity and evolution of the Bishop Ireton program—gritty, aggressive, and unrelenting. Coach Clement’s side once again showed that no team in the WCAC plays with more passion or intensity.

A special mention goes to Sophomore Max Jordan, who put in a commanding and versatile display—shifting between right back and center mid while combining technical flair, defensive leadership, and creativity in possession. His performance epitomized the heart and promise of the program’s future.

While the result didn’t go their way, this Senior Night felt different. The Cardinals played with belief, unity, and maturity. As Coach Clement’s era continues to shape the team’s mentality, one thing is clear—Bishop Ireton Boys Soccer is building something special, and their resilience against DCI proved just that.
