The Bishop Ireton Cardinals Varsity Baseball team fell to Georgetown Prep 8 - 2 on Wednesday evening. Despite the result, the Cardinals showed flashes offensively and continued to gain valuable experience early in the season.
On the mound, Cash Griffy ('28) got the start for the Cardinals, with Thomas Foley ('27) and Henry LeMaster ('26) providing relief. While Georgetown Prep was able to capitalize on several Cardinals' errors, the Cardinals pitchers competed throughout the game to limit the damage. LeMaster closed out the final 2.2 innings, yielding just one run.
Offensively, Andrew Antonio ('26) set the tone from the lead-off spot with two hits, while Sean Cosgrove ('26), Jacob Hurley ('26), Alex Fukuda ('27), and Foley ('27) each added a hit. Fukuda and JD Loving ('28) each drove in a run for the Cardinals. The team also showed patience at the plate, with Connor Stehn ('27) drawing two walks and Fukuda adding another.
The Cardinals will look to regroup and build momentum as they prepare for their next matchup against Gonzaga on March 17.
