MAPHL A Championship

The Bishop Ireton V1 team won the MAPHL A championship on February 26 in Laurel. They defeated Gonzaga by a score of 8-1.
In November, this Gonzaga team defeated BI by a score of 2-1. It was clear early in this game that BI was here to avenge that loss and secure the championship, which it did in convincing manner. Michael Callender '26 started the scoring with a goal in the first period that was unassisted. He also had an assist later in the game.  Connor Seibel '26 added four goals over the last two periods putting a large exclamation point on his amazing career at BI. Michael Battaglia '26 chipped in 2 goals as the seniors led the way to victory. Joe Payne '28 also had a goal, and Matthias Borges '27 had 2 assists, Jacob Kramer '27, Jacob Brink '27, Barnaby Lant '27, and Logan McCarthy '27 all had assists in the game showing that there is still some offense left for next year.

It was an excellent team win with BI excelling in all aspects of the game. Declan Edwards '28 was stellar in net stopping 29 of the 30 shots that he faced. This victory highlights the steady improvement that the V1 team made through the year under the guidance of the very capable coaching staff of Stephen and Ben Gerke and JD Hicks.

The V1 team ended with an impressive record of 21-4-1. This year they made it to the WCAC championship, won the MAPHL championship, and defeated their cross-town rival, West Potomac. The Boys Hockey Program would like to thank the school administration and the athletic department for their unwavering support during this season. The team would also like to thank the student body for taking the bus to Laurel to support the team at this game and many others. We heard you and it helped more than you know.  Roll Cards!
