VISAA Championships

The Bishop Ireton Cardinals delivered an outstanding performance at the VISAA State Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Competing against the top independent school athletes in the state, the Cardinals turned in multiple All-State honors, personal bests, and school records.
Senior Regan Schultz earned Second-Team All-State honors in the 1600-meter run, breaking her own Bishop Ireton school record with a time of 5:19.52. Schultz’s performance highlighted a strong distance showing for the Cardinals.

In the 3200-meter run, junior Jason Day earned Honorable Mention All-State with a fourth-place finish, while setting a strong pace in a competitive field. Fellow distance runners also impressed, as senior Reagan Kaleta, competing in her first state championship, set a personal record and now owns the second-fastest indoor two-mile time in school history. Sophomore Sophia Larose added to the Cardinals’ depth in the event, posting the fourth-fastest indoor 3200-meter time in Bishop Ireton history.

Senior Abigail Crum had a record-breaking day, earning Honorable Mention All-State in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:20.83, breaking the Bishop Ireton school record. Crum also reset the school standard in the 300-meter dash, running 43.10 to break a 14-year-old record.

The Cardinals’ hurdlers also made their mark. Junior Siena Santoro qualified for the finals in the 55-meter hurdles, recording a time of 9.96, now the third-fastest in school history. Senior Grace Rafaels followed closely, setting a personal record of 10.46 in the same event.

Relay teams capped off the meet with historic performances. The boys 4×400-meter relay of Joseph Carter, Eden Chandler, Niko Salamanca, and Will Taft shattered the school record by four seconds with a time of 3:34.01. Not to be outdone, the girls 4×400-meter relay team of Abigail Crum, Ellie Simoes, Kate Merrill, and Regan Schultz lowered their own school record by two seconds, finishing in 4:25.27.

Overall, the Cardinals’ performances showcased the depth, resilience, and talent of the Bishop Ireton indoor track program, closing the season with a memorable showing on the state’s biggest stage.
