v. Gonzaga College High School

The Cardinals fell 8–1 to Gonzaga in a tough matchup, but not without effort and resilience across the squad. The lone goal for Bishop Ireton came from an unusual moment — an own goal created by high pressure from the Cardinals. A back pass from one of Gonzaga’s center backs slipped under their keeper’s foot and rolled into the net.
By halftime, the Cardinals trailed 3–1 after competing well and defending with discipline. However, with an away game at Woodberry scheduled for the following day, Head Coach Jordan Clement made the strategic decision to rotate heavily and give the starters some much-needed rest during the second half.

That decision opened opportunities for the full squad to get meaningful minutes, though it also allowed Gonzaga to extend their lead as fatigue and inexperience showed late on.

Standout Performers:
  • Junior Mason Bauer – Caused consistent problems down the right flank, showing pace, work rate, and creativity in the attack.
  • Sophomore Mack Schneeberger – Excelled in midfield, beating players, creating chances, and defending aggressively to drive the team forward.
  • Sophomore Tate Leckie & Senior Travis Mulder – The center back pairing led with heart and bravery, producing numerous clearances and key interventions before being subbed off to manage minutes.

  • While the scoreline didn’t reflect the team’s effort, the Cardinals displayed commitment, teamwork, and character throughout all 90 minutes. With lessons learned, focus now shifts to tomorrow’s fixture at Woodberry.
