The Bishop Ireton Cardinals Boys Varsity Soccer secured their first win of the season with a resilient 2–1 victory over St. Mary’s Ryken. The match showcased the Cardinals’ growing confidence and ability to manage pressure throughout both halves.
The Cardinals got off to a strong start, with Senior striker Ian Mohr opening the scoring to give Ireton the early advantage. Soon after, Sophomore Max Jordan doubled the lead, finishing off a well-worked play that was assisted by right winger Gavin Mohr, whose creativity and pace caused constant problems for Ryken’s back line.
The first half cemented a two-goal lead heading into the break, and though St. Mary’s Ryken pulled one back in the second half, Bishop Ireton’s defensive organization and determination ensured the scoreline held firm.
Defensively, Senior center back Travis Mulder and Sophomore center back Tate Leckey were outstanding—calm under pressure and disciplined in their shape. Sophomore Max Schneeberger also stood out, controlling the midfield tempo and orchestrating attacks with maturity beyond his years.
On the wings, Christian Stumpf was electric on both flanks, creating multiple scoring opportunities for his teammates, while Junior captain Aron Condie led by example with composure and vocal leadership throughout the match.
It was a performance built on teamwork, grit, and composure. The Cardinals showed great resiliency to close out the game and will look to build on this momentum moving forward as they continue to find their rhythm this season.
