Alexandria City Championships

The Bishop Ireton Cross Country teams delivered outstanding performances at the Alexandria City Championships, hosted by Episcopal High School. The meet also served as the Cardinals’ Senior Night, making for an exciting and memorable evening of racing.
The Bishop Ireton boys team captured the city title, finishing first with 33 points, defeating runner-up Alexandria City High School (47 points). Junior Jason Day led the way in record-breaking fashion, setting a new personal best and school record with a time of 15:58 to win the individual championship. Million DeSio (5th), Emilio Burneo (8th), and Henry Schubert (9th) all turned in strong performances to secure the Cardinals’ victory.

On the girls’ side, the Cardinals finished a close second to Alexandria City in a thrilling team battle. After the scoring resulted in a tie, the meet was decided by a tiebreaker, which the Cardinals narrowly lost by just one point. Regan Schultz claimed the individual title, surging ahead in the final mile through the woods to win in 18:52. She was followed by Cate Messing (3rd), Abigail Crum (8th), Sophia Larose (11th), and Annie Simon (13th)—a display of depth and determination from the Cardinals.

It was a proud night for Bishop Ireton Cross Country, as both teams showcased their hard work, teamwork, and championship spirit on home turf.
