Preseason Scrimmage v. St. John Paul the Great

Bishop Ireton boys' soccer opened its preseason scrimmage schedule with a hard-fought 1–1 draw away against St. John Paul the Great. Despite being without two players—junior explosive winger Stefanos Toof and sophomore left back Gabriel Maza—the Cardinals still brought a squad of approximately 26 players.

The match provided an opportunity for significant rotation throughout the squad, with the coaching staff able to evaluate a large number of players. Despite the changes, the team showed a great deal of quality, ability, and depth across the field.

Bishop Ireton struck first through senior Gavin Mohr, who was playing in the No. 10 role. Mohr produced the highlight of the match when he connected with a volley from distance and sent it into the top corner to give the Cardinals a 1–0 lead.

John Paul the Great equalized in the second half, and the challenge became even greater when sophomore Sean Hendricks received a red card early in the half. Bishop Ireton was forced to play the remainder of the match down a man.

Even with 10 players, however, the Cardinals continued to create opportunities and had several chances to find a winning goal. The team was unable to capitalize on those opportunities, and the match ultimately finished in a 1–1 draw.
Individual Highlights
Several players made strong impressions throughout the match:
  • Gavin Mohr, Senior — Scored Bishop Ireton's goal with an outstanding volley from distance into the top corner while playing in the No. 10 role.
  • Beckett Christie, Junior — Became increasingly influential as the match progressed, particularly when playing at left midfield. He created multiple opportunities and was a major contributor to the team's attacking play.
  • Max Schneeberger, Junior — Was influential both at center midfield and later at right midfield, showing his ability to impact the game from multiple positions.
  • Mason Bauer, Senior — Provided a strong and influential presence defensively, helping keep the Cardinals organized and strong at the back. He also nearly scored the game-winning goal with a header.
  • Tate Leckey, Junior — Put in an influential performance defensively and showed his value and ability at the back.
  • Raul Cardenal, Senior — Was influential in central midfield, dictating play through his passing and showing excellent composure and intelligence on the ball.
  • Niko Salamanca, Senior — Was also influential with his passing and ability to connect play. Both Niko and Raul demonstrated exemplary soccer IQ throughout the match.
  • Quinn Hoenle, Sophomore — Was impressive during his minutes at striker, showing a strong presence and making a positive impact up top.
  • Caleb Danysh, Junior — Made his first varsity start at right midfield and delivered an influential performance during his time on the field.
  • Felipe Garcia, Senior — Performed well when called upon, doing an excellent job of keeping possession, maintaining the ball, and helping dictate the tempo of the game.
  • Matthew Salamanca, Freshman — Made his varsity debut and played well, gaining valuable experience in his first appearance at the varsity level.
  • Aron Condie, Senior — Was comfortable and demanding from the goalkeeper position, helping organize the team from the back and showing a strong presence throughout his time in the match.
