The Cardinals finished the WCAC in 5th place and traveled to Good Counsel for the quarterfinals. Earlier in the year, Good Counsel beat BI 16-2, but the Cardinals' confidence was high despite that loss.
The Cardinals wasted no time. Senior Captain Annie Simon crushed a pitch to deep left field easily clearing the fence for a tone setting leadoff home run! Senior Captain Caroline Dick then crushed a double to the fence and the bats were rolling. She later scored and the top of the 1st ended with BI leading 2-0.
The energy continued into the 2nd. Rachel Klaric hit a mile high fly ball to left that also left the park for another home run, and the third base dugout emptied to meet her at home plate. Caroline followed with a single, senior Captain Ciara Funk blasted a double, and Caroline scored on a wild pitch. Kolby Curry hit a double to the fence scoring courtesy runner senior Annabelle Seaton. Cardinals were up 4-1 in the 3rd.
Ciara pitched a 7-inning complete game striking out 3, walking none and giving up just 1 earned run spinning pitches left and right to keep the batters off balance. She threw 87 pitches with 68 strikes!
The Cardinals had 2 home runs, 4 doubles (freshman Kate Harrington had the fourth) and 4 singles to defeat Good Counsel 5-1 and advance to the semifinals scheduled for Thursday at Paul VI.
