Fr. Bresnahan hails from Dale City, VA where he grew up with his older brother, Sam and younger sister, Angela. He went to Bishop O’Connell for High school (before the Bishop promoted him to Bishop Ireton), and the University of Dallas where he majored in History and Classics.
Though he initially wanted to become a spy, he put those ambitions on hold after college and dedicated some time for mission, and service to others. In 2003, Father B joined a program called the National Evangelization Teams, which traveled around the country leading retreats and challenging young people to see their Faith and their Church in a new, and beautiful way. Confident that God was asking him to do something more, he entered St. Charles Seminary, in Philadelphia in order to study for the priesthood. He was ordained in 2010, and Bishop Loverde assigned him to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Fredericksburg, VA. In 2013, he received the great news that he would be the next chaplain at Bishop Ireton, where he has been a fixture ever since.
Father B is an extreme extrovert, with a ton of interests. You’d be just as likely to find him announcing basketball games, watching movies, telling jokes, playing board games, solving the rubik’s cube, trying out new celebrity imitations, hiking, camping, sailing, playing Ultimate Frisbee, or doing acrobatics as you are to see him praying, debating challenging topics in our faith, or just helping someone through a crisis. He is always quick with a joke or a kind word, and more than anything, he has a passion for faith, and loves making it relevant to young people in everything he does.
