Bishop Ireton High School Hires Dr. Timothy Guy as New Principal for the 2021-2022 School Year
ALEXANDRIA, VA – March 22, 2021 – Today, Bishop Ireton High School is pleased to announce that Bishop Michael F. Burbidge, upon receiving the recommendation of the search committee and after prayerful discernment, has appointed Dr. Timothy Guy as the school’s new principal. “It is with great privilege that I have appointed Dr. Guy to serve in partnership with Mrs. Kathleen McNutt as the leadership team at Bishop Ireton," said Bishop Burbidge. "Dr. Guy’s energy and, most importantly, his focus on the Catholic identity and mission of Bishop Ireton is going to further elevate this impressive Catholic high school in the coming years.” As previously announced, Mrs. Denise Tobin, the current Bishop Ireton principal, is retiring following the completion of this school year. Dr. Guy will assume his duties on July 1, 2021.
After graduating from Mount Saint Mary’s College with a BS in Mathematics, Dr. Guy taught math at Archbishop Carroll High School, George Mason High School and Blyth Templeton Academy. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Virginia Tech and an adjunct instructor at George Mason University. From 2002 to 2013, Dr. Guy served as the Assistant Principal at George Mason High School following a two-year stint as the Dean of Students there. From 2013-2014, he was the Assistant Principal at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School. Since 2018, Dr. Guy has taught math at Bishop Ireton High School and served as chair of the Math Department.
Dr. Guy received his M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia and his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech. His administrative experience and his commitment to excellence in academics make Dr. Guy a great fit for Bishop Ireton High School as it continues to expand its academic programs and STEM focus.
Head of School Mrs. Kathleen McNutt shared, “I am excited to welcome Dr. Guy as our next Principal. He has demonstrated a commitment, not only to Catholic education, but to the unique Salesian charism that makes Bishop Ireton special. We have been blessed by his dedication as a faculty member, department chair and key member of the Reopening Task Force during the pandemic. I am confident that he will build upon the great strengths of our school, bringing innovation and expertise to all areas of curriculum and the student experience.”
Bishop Ireton’s Chaplain, Father Noah Morey, said, “After a thorough national search and having interviewed highly-qualified candidates, the search committee found ‘one of our own’ to be the best fit for the role of principal. I am confident that as he takes on this new position of leadership, Dr. Guy will continue to promote the high academic ideals and Christ-centered focus that are trademarks of Bishop Ireton High School.”

Bishop Ireton will have a formal introduction of Dr. Guy via video in April after Easter. More details will follow.
