All freshman applicants are required to take the HSPT. If your student currently attends a Diocese of Arlington Catholic School, they will take the exam at their school, typically around the end of November or early December. They should indicate Bishop Ireton on their testing form in order for their scores to be sent directly to our school. If your child attends a public school, other private school or is home schooled they may take the exam at Bishop Ireton or one of the other diocesan high schools. Please be sure to mark Bishop Ireton as the first choice to ensure the scores are sent directly to our school.
The High School Placement Test is a national, standardized test used to help determine placement in high school course work. The test is taken once by the student for a given year. It provides an assessment of both math and verbal abilities. Click here for the registration form and dates. The HSPT is not the application for admission, only one piece of the application process.
Bishop Ireton strives to meet the needs of all of our students. Please visit the Academic Support page for information on the accommodations we provide. If applicable, a copy of your students IEP/504 plan and any testing is required as part of the application. Please contact the admissions office if you have questions specific to your child.
Please have your child bring two #2 pencils. They are permitted to bring a bottle of water, but food is not permitted and there is no snack break. Calculators, dictionaries or other devices are not permitted. Limited accommodations can be made for students with documented learning needs. See the registration form for details.
Bishop Ireton currently does not offer a bus service, however, we run a bus to and from the Braddock Road Metro Station at 7:30am for morning pick-up and 15 minutes after the final bell has rung for the day. We also have a partnership with the City of Alexandria DASH bus service. Our students can use their student ID to ride DASH buses for free during the school year, which can take them to the King St. metro. Our students can arrive via parent drop off, carpool, self-driven, public transportation, biking or walking. On campus parking is available only for seniors and as space permits for other students. There is an annual fee for on campus parking.
The use of technology is encouraged, however, it is only permissible on a teacher by teacher basis. The school has class sets of devices that they share as well as multiple computer labs and computer science corners.
Students at Bishop Ireton can purchase a hot lunch from the school cafeteria or they may bring their lunch and breakfast from home. Various vending machines are available throughout the school as well.
