about bishop ireton

Bishop Ireton is a college preparatory, co-educational high school serving students from across the Washington Metropolitan area in grades 9 through 12. Founded in 1964, Bishop Ireton is one of four high school's in the Diocese of Arlington, and is rooted in the tradition of Salesian spirituality taught by the Religious Congregation of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, our founding religious order. Following our Live Jesus! Charter, the School continues an affiliation with the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales.

Bishop Ireton is located near historic Old Town Alexandria and has an entirely college prep curriculum.  There are AP and honors courses in all disciplines and an Academic Enrichment program provides daily support for those who need it.  Seventy percent of students participate in the athletic program and there are more than 50 co-curricular clubs and activities.  BI is home to an internationally renowned music and award-wining drama program.  There is a four-year comprehensive community service program.  Bishop Ireton students earn millions in scholarship money and attain top SAT scores and 99% college placement.

Bishop Ireton is fortunate to have dedicated lay faculty and staff, 80% of which have advanced degrees, as well as a full time chaplain from the Diocese of Arlington and teachers and administrators from the Franciscan and Holy Cross Religious Communities. Faculty teach their students according to the unique spirit of St. Francis de Sales, teacher, missionary, bishop, and gentle saint.
