BI Football Off to a Strong Start in the "Fall" Season

The varsity football team defeated Pope John Paul the Great 41-0 on Saturday afternoon in Dumfries, Virginia. The Cardinals offensive and defensive lines dominated the game racking up 405 yards of total offense while holding the Wolves to under 100 yards. Senior Jaeven Hughes had two of the team's four interceptions and also returned a punt 57 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Senior Chris Ntumba and sophomore Reid Burke also had interceptions.
The offensive line of Kevin Huynh, Kyle Barbour, James Gillespie, Connor Harrison, Evan Safreed and Isiah Holley opened up holes all day for senior running backs Sam Bowen and Chris Ntumba. Ntumba finished the day with 136 yards of total offense including a 95 yard run and three touchdowns. Senior quarterback Fasial Abu-Taa led a well-balanced attack completing 11/19 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns to Nick Hamer. Hamer finished the day with five catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
  
The defense was led by T.J Bush, James Gillespie, Kyle Brewer, Evan Safreed, Kyle Barbour, Chris Ntumba and Reid Burke. The Cardinals will travel to Arlington to take on archrival Bishop O’Connell on Saturday March 20 for a 12 pm kickoff.
