2021 Bishop Ireton Summer Camps

Bishop Ireton will host a number of camps in the summer of 2021. Please see below for descriptions of the camps and click the button below to register. 

Due to health and safety protocols as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, spaces for each camp are extremely limited. Register soon to secure your spot.

PLEASE NOTE: All camps will be run by Bishop Ireton coaches and staff. There will be one nurse and one athletic trainer on site each day. Campers are not permitted to stay on campus during the one hour break between sessions to ensure proper cleaning and sanitization.

Camp Philosophy

Bishop Ireton offers campers the opportunity to participate in sports and the arts while developing individual and group skills and fostering a love of the activity. Each camp is conducted by a Bishop Ireton certified coach/director providing individual and small group instruction and constant supervision.

  • Art

    This camp will be a week of artistic creativity for summertime fun! Art campers will explore several fantastic art forms using different media. We will create a pointillism image on a ceramic tile, mosaic fun and a few other projects as time allows. There is no "wrong" in art - only a vision that comes to life! Come join us for a fun-filled week of art adventure.

  • Baseball

    The goal of this camp is to create an environment in which players can receive top level advanced instruction from Bishop Ireton's award winning coaches and players.   • Boys Basketball

    Led by Coach Dwayne Bryant who has over 40 years of experience with the game of basketball as a coach and player. He was a McDonald’s American, an All-Big East point Guard and a four-year starter for Hall of Fame Coach John Thompson and the Georgetown Hoyas. He has been coaching high school basketball for over 20 years and has run very successful basketball camps during this time. He coached Roy Hibbert, former Georgetown University All-American Center and Indiana Pacer All Star while at Georgetown Prep. He guided the Little Hoyas to two IAC titles and two IAC tournament titles in his 11 years as coach at Georgetown Prep. Coach Bryant is in his first year as the Director of Athletics and head boys varsity basketball coach at Bishop Ireton High School.

  • Boys Basketball (Point Guard and Shooting Guard Skills)

    Point guard and shooting skills camp instructed by Coach Bryant, Athletic Director and head boys basketball coach at Bishop Ireton High School.

  • Boys Lacrosse

    This fun and active camp is run by Bishop Ireton boys lacrosse coach Pat Young as well as BI players who will teach lacrosse skills through a progression of individual instruction followed by small game situations

    5th – 7th: This five day, half-day camp will focus on introducing beginner level players to the fun basics of boy’s lacrosse. With an emphasis on catching, throwing, cradling and ground balls. Campers will play many games to help sharpen their new skills. No prior experience required.

    8th – 12th: This five day, half-day camp is designed for intermediate and advanced lacrosse players interested in improving their overall skills. Campers will focus on footwork, stick skills, ground balls and overall gameplay and lacrosse IQ. Prior experience is required.

  • Coed Soccer

    AM SESSION: Soccer Bishop Ireton invites all youth players (girls and boys) 4th-7th grade for a week-long, half-day camp series led by the Bishop Ireton coaching staff and players. Camp will focus on technical skill development and tactical fundamentals of the game for all levels.

    PM SESSION: Soccer Bishop Ireton invites all players (girls and boys) 8th-12th grade for a week-long half-day camp series led by the Bishop Ireton professional coaching staff and players. The series will focus on technical skill development and tactical understanding of the game. Principles of attack, defense and goal keeping will be covered. Camp will provide instruction for beginning, intermediate and advanced players.

  • Computer

    June Session: Campers will explore the world of computer programming using Finch Robots. Campers will write code to control the robots as they investigate different coding constructs. Come and learn how to make the robot negotiate a maze or perform a dance, have it create a drawing as it moves, see it put on its own light show or have it play a song. You may even create your very own game with the Finch. Every day there will be new challenges to solve and students will be encouraged to come up with their own challenges for other campers to solve. Younger campers (rising 6th-8th graders) will be using drag and drop visual programming (Snap!) and older campers (rising 9th- 12th graders) will be using text-based programming (Python).

    July Session: Campers will explore the world of computer programming using Micro:Bit pocket-sized computers as they investigate different coding constructs and come up with their own solutions to coding based challenges. Micro:Bits have buttons and lights, can play sound and can sense temperature, movement, and light. Campers will be provided starter challenges, and will be encouraged to propose their own challenges and then solve them with their fellow campers. Campers will take home their Micro:Bit pocket-sized computer so their programming adventures can continue. Materials cost $20 per camper. Younger campers (rising 6th-8th graders) will be using drag and drop visual programming (Microsoft MakeCode) older campers (rising 9th-12th graders) will be using text-based programming (Python).

  • Football

    The morning passing camp is non-contact and will be led by Air Raid certified and two time WCAC coach of the year Chip Armstrong.  Coach Armstrong will be assisted by one of the areas top wide receiver specialist coach Terrance Byrd. The camp will emphasize quarterback, receiver and defensive back skill development, drills, techniques and 7-on-7 competition. 

    The afternoon Big Man Camp is a non-contact camp and will be led by Coach Armstrong and Bishop Ireton defensive line coach  Dave Davis and offensive line coach Jeff Cave.  Coach Davis and coach Cave are known as two of the very best line coaches in the Washington D.C area.  Campers will develop the skills necessary to play on the high school level and beyond.

  • Girls Basketball

    Led by BI Girls Head Coach Kesha Walton, this camp will focus on basketball drills and 5 on 5 competition. There will be games, prizes and lots of fun. Campers will be separated by age and ability.  

    Coach Kesha Walton became Head Coach for the Bishop Ireton High School Lady Cardinals Basketball Program in 2018 after spending 14 years coaching at T.C. Williams HS.  A 2002 graduate of North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, Walton earned four letters (1998-2002) with the Aggies. Coach Walton’s list of accolades includes being named to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), All-Freshman Team (1999), first team all-conference (2002), team Most Valuable Player and North Carolina A&T Female Athlete of the Year (2002). Coach Walton earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from North Carolina A&T State University and her MBA from the University of Maryland. Coach Walton is a proud member of the phenomenal organization Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.  She has 20 years coaching AAU, player development, skill clinics, and camps. A lover of the game, Coach Walton instills in her players the importance and value of hard work on and off the court. Her philosophy is rooted in concept of hard work and working intelligently.  One of Coach Walton’s many goals is for her teams to improve every day.

  • STEM

    Younger Campers (Rising 4th-7th Graders): Campers will be introduced to engineering and the eight-step engineering design process as they work together to engineer remote sensing devices for partner scientists. Campers will investigate different technologies used in the field of remote sensing – periscopes, optical filters, and LiDAR – before engineering their own remote sensing devices to solve one of the research problems posed by the scientists. Campers will also use scratch to program some of the sensors built into a micro:bit pocket sized computer that they will take home so that their engineering adventures can continue. Materials cost of $20 per camper.

    Older Campers (Rising 8th-12th Graders): Students will dive into the world of computer-based music during this week-long camp. They will learn basic skills in electronics, design and 3D print a keychain, solder a circuit board and use to python to program a pocket-sized micro:bit computer as they build a synthesizer keyboard that will interface with their computer or iPhone. Students will take home the micro:bit computer at the end of the week so that their engineering adventures can continue. Materials cost $20 per camper.

  • Theater

    Camp participants will have an opportunity to develop their skills in acting, voice, and movement. Led by Bishop Ireton's Theatre Director, Kathryn Rice, campers will participate in a variety of theatrical experiences. There will be a final presentation for family and friends on the last day of the workshop session.

  • Volleyball

    5th-8th: This is a beginners/novice camp. Campers will learn basic skills and knowledge needed to play volleyball. Each day players will receive a short session of conditioning followed by skill development. Players will learn volleyball game theory concerning defense and offense positioning. Our camp goal is to ensure each camper understands every position on the floor and has the basic knowledge, and skill, to play each position. Campers will receive this training from Bishop Ireton Coaches alongside experienced volleyball players.

    9th-12th: This camp will reinforce basic volleyball skills and fundamentals but will focus on more advanced personal skills and game play. On an individual level, players will work on advanced serving techniques, attacks, passing and setting skills. This camp will also key in on playing within a 5/1 and 6/2 offense as well as teach different defensive styles. Each day, players will receive a short session of conditioning followed by skill development and game play. Campers joining this camp should have a good understanding of the basics of volleyball. Campers will receive this training from Bishop Ireton coaches alongside experienced volleyball players.
