About

Our Campus

Since 1964, Bishop Ireton High School has been entrusted with the privilege of helping to educate young people and shape their lives through strong academics and a shared spirit of service and community, all rooted in our Catholic faith and love of God.
Now, after more than a half-century, Bishop Ireton has embarked on a bold undertaking to build our future now. We need to provide the next generation of students with an expanded campus and cutting-edge facilities to continue to build on our legacy of to Advance Always.

The four-story, 40,000 square foot Academic Center provides expanded and modern spaces for courses in STEM and robotics. The Dining Hall more than doubles the capacity of the current cafeteria and reduces overcrowding during lunch periods. It also serves as a multi-purpose space for events and gatherings. Connected to the cafeteria and adjacent to the St. Francis de Sales Chapel is an outdoor courtyard with additional seating. The Media Center and Learning Commons houses the library, an AV studio, and collaborative learning spaces. The exterior of the building includes a vertical “bio-wall” garden, an open-air study arbor and a glass stairwell for significant daylighting.

The addition of a new auxiliary gymnasium, and renovations to the existing fitness and weight rooms, allows Bishop Ireton’s Athletic Program to compete in one of the most competitive leagues in the country (Washington Catholic Athletic Conference). The updated facilities provides student-athletes the ability to train and compete at the highest level. Team locker rooms also received a face-lift and enhanced functionality for athletes.

  • Directions & Transportation

PLEASE NOTE: All visitors must park in the upper lot and enter through the main entrance. The lot is the second right-hand turn coming up Cambridge Road from Duke Street.

Located just east of historic Old Town Alexandria, our main campus is directly off of Route 236 (Duke Street) close to both the I-395 and I-495 interchanges.

We are conveniently situated near the King Street Metro Station and the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) less than two miles from campus. The Alexandria DASH Bus stops right next to campus on Duke Street, and the 29 K-N Metro Bus stops near campus at the Alexandria Commons shopping center.
  • Transportation for Students

A Bishop Ireton bus picks up students promptly at 7:15 am and 7:35 am at the King Street Metro in front of the Embassy Suites Hotel on Diagonal Road (where other buses pick up). In the afternoon, the bus leaves the school promptly at 3:15pm from the upper parking lot and returns to the King Street station.

Students can ride the Alexandria DASH bus for free with the use of their student IDs.

Athletes are provided transportation to and from practice and games when they are located off campus.

We do not offer a traditional bus service, but we encourage families to carpool. If you are looking to organize a carpool, please contact the Dean of Students office.
