Eye on B.I.
May 2015
"News from The Nest"
Annual Fund 2014-2015
The Annual Fund supports Bishop Ireton's greatest needs.

Striving in Our Mission to continue providing a superior Catholic college-prep community of learning, our greatest need is to bridge the gap between the true cost of the Bishop Ireton Education and what tuition alone can supply.

Currently, we are able to provide 50% of the financial assistance our students and families need. We're trying to improve that with help from the Annual Fund, but as you can see from the barometer, we still have a way to go.

We have set our sights on a 2014-15
Annual Fund goal of $450,000.

Help us get there!

Whether you give $50, $500, $5,000, or more, every donation makes a difference. The fiscal year ends in less than two months, and we still have $250,000 to go to reach our goal by June 30.

Join your fellow alums, current and past parents, teachers, and friends

in helping us achieve and surpass our Annual Fund target.

28th Annual
Bishop Ireton Golf Classic

 Another One for the Books!

MVCC landscape

The best weather of the new spring brought 98 golfers out to Mt. Vernon Country Club on May 5 to make this year's Classic another one for the books! Old friends made new ones as Ireton's past, present, and future met on the links to raise money for the Oblates and the School.

Ireton's Chaplain, Fr. Ed Bresnahan, blessed the field of golfers with the opening prayer to start the scramble round, and former Principal, Fr. Kevin Nadolski, O.S.F.S, joined us to deliver the invocation before dinner to end the day.

Thanks to the Classic Committee and to all the players, sponsors, and volunteers who make this such a continuously successful jewel in the Ireton crown!

Alumnus of the Month
Eric McNutt, B.I. '89
Eric and Mary enjoying Ireton's 50th Birthday at the Anniversary Gala last October.

An integral part of the McNutt legacy at Bishop Ireton, Eric is active in the Alumni Association, and is always eager to organize an impromptu reunion or return to the Golf Classic every year.
In his own words:
"With my oldest son leaving for James Madison in the fall it seems like I have spent a good bit of time lately talking about my high school experience. Invariably these conversations end with me saying to my wife, Mary, 'I guess I didn't have a typical high school experience,' to which she replies, 'No, you didn't.' For that I can thank the Ireton faculty, staff, coaches, and most of all, my fellow classmates. My class of 1989 was part of the end of an era: We were the 25th Anniversary class and, along with '90, one of the last all-male graduating classes at Ireton. I enjoyed playing soccer under the legendary Pete Johnson and basketball under Coach Mike Hutton and Smilin' Jack Edmonson. The friendships I made at Ireton have lasted a lifetime. My extended Ireton family was represented in my wedding party, baptized both my boys, and served as godfather to both my boys. It continues today with pick-up basketball games, adult league baseball, the annual alumni golf tournament, and most recently, a fantastic 25 year class reunion and 50 year school celebration. My Ireton relationships are as active and relevant today as they were 25 years ago.

I have remained engaged in the Ireton alumni community and committed to continuing the traditions of Ireton for one simple reason: I want each rising freshman class to experience the same Ireton that I did - A faith-based community that taught me to value my education, learn to think critically, and treat all people with respect, all while providing an environment that encourages fun, creativity, and individuality. My oldest niece graduated in 2014 and I will have 3 nieces there in the fall. I am proud to say that I am an Ireton graduate and proud of the tradition that lives on to serve my nieces and all that seek a quality Catholic education."
