The new "business directory" on the website will connect our Alumni to shared business opportunities like never before on a daily and weekly basis.
Membership to the Ireton Business Network is free and open to all of our Bishop Ireton and St. Mary's Academy Alums. We encourage all alumni to sign up today.
A new jobs board will be added to the IBN Website by mid-April.
When I began at the all-girls St. Mary's Academy on Russell Road in 1969, I was a member of the largest class in the school's 100 year history... 99 fresh(wo)men... and Bishop Ireton had just recently graduated its first all-male class. I remember thinking that I would miss being with boys at school, but that quickly changed, because other than the actual classes, the BI boys and the SMA girls spent their off hours at both campuses. The girls were the cheerleaders at BI and participated in the drama productions, as well as band classes, and the boys were forever "hanging" out at SMA. Imagine that!
After twelve years of Catholic education, I went to business school and then began working for the government. I met my husband and we began our family with the birth of my son. When it came time for him to begin kindergarten, I had the opportunity to return to Catholic school...this time as an educator. This was the start of my twenty-three year career in Catholic education and also my involvement with the St. Mary's Academy Alumnae Association.
I met and began to work with the lovely ladies who were the founding members of the association. They had many activities, including board meetings, raffles, luncheons, etc., and they asked me to join them on the board. In the years since, I've served in many positions, eventually moving up to President. In this capacity, it has been my pleasure to oversee the blending of many SMA activities with Bishop Ireton's Alumni events, including most importantly, hosting our annual reunion event (known as the "St. Mary's Tea") right here at BI. Many compliments are received each year from our attendees as to the warm, welcoming atmosphere they encounter whenever visiting the building. It is my goal, as President of the SMA Alumnae Association, to continue to nurture this symbiotic relationship well into the future.
