ADVANCING THE MISSION
Annual Fund 2014-2015
The Annual Fund supports Bishop Ireton's greatest needs.

As we constantly adapt to innovations and challenges, your Alma Mater puts Annual Fund dollars to work on crucial projects such as updating campus infrastructure, improving educational tech, and renovating athletic facilities, as well as supporting the ongoing need for student financial assistance.

Striving in Our Mission to continue providing a superior Catholic college-prep community of learning, our greatest need is to bridge the gap between the true cost of the Bishop Ireton Education and what tuition alone can supply.
To help our students.

Currently, we are able to provide 50% of the financial assistance
our students and families need.

We have set our sights on a 2014/15 Annual Fund goal of $450,000.

Help us get there!

Join your fellow alums, current and past parents, teachers, and friends

in helping us achieve and surpass our Annual Fund target.

50th Anniversary Prayer Book
Seeds of Our Salesian Tradition
An integral part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations, an advance copy of the new B.I. Prayer Book, Seeds of Our Salesian Tradition, was presented to Bishop Loverde during our Mass of the Holy Spirit on Homecoming & Reunion Weekend.

There has been such a tremendous response from the community that we have decided to make this a living document in order to accommodate all offerings!

Alumni contributions are wanted and welcome, so please e-mail us your prayers.

Alma Mater Needs You!
ALUMNI GUEST SPEAKERS NEEDED
microphone

Speaking to a classroom full of students on a subject about which you are passionate and expert is one of the best ways an alum can give back to B.I., and is a great opportunity to connect with our current students, showcasing the tight-knit community with which Ireton is so blessed.

We are still looking for alums to speak in the following subject areas:
  • Business Ethics, specifically with regards to Environment/Green Initiatives/Living, Peace/Justice Concerns/Initiatives
  • Law (Criminal/Civil), Legal Studies
  • Stocks & The Market, i.e. what the Stock Market is, why people should be investing, and how to evaluate a stock for purchase.
  • Writing in any profession and the importance of written/verbal communication
If you are interested in being a guest speaker,
please e-mail T.J. McBride or call (703) 212-5184.

Thank You to all who have responded so far.
We'll get you into a classroom soon, because
the students and staff are eager to hear from you!

Alumnus of the Month
Kevin Gaghan, B.I. '74

Kevin and his lovely bride, Linda, enjoying a night out.

Kevin stays connected to Alma Mater in myriad ways, and is always ready to lend a hand.

In his own words:
"I am honored to have been selected as B.I./SMA alumnus of the month. It has been 40+ years since I attended B.I., but the learning and benefits of my immersion live with me and work for me daily.

The effort, commitment, and sacrifices made by my parents, Jim and Alma Gaghan, ensured that all seven of their children (Michael, James F. III, Timothy, Kevin, Michele, Valerie, and T.J.) were given the most important aspects of life: God, family, and education. Bishop Ireton was selected (as was Saint Mary's Academy for my sisters) because it embodied those three most important aspects. These have grounded and guided me throughout my adult life. So many of the teachers and individuals have impacted my life as examples of what is right and to "advance always". Dougherty, Godley, Swaney, Jasper, Umbeck, Rich, Frey, "Dancing Bear", Hayo, Barbee, Norman, and Hultberg are just a few from Ireton that enriched me.

B.I. has always been a place to feel comfortable. I have always been greeted with open arms, open minds, and smiles. That continues in my experiences with B.I. today. To watch the leadership and guidance of the wrestling coach, Kwinten Brown, as he teaches the wrestlers how to improve, not only on the mat, but also how the team is your family and how each person must teach and lead each other.  How to test your team mates and improve them. How to teach your "family" to make them better.

B.I. has been very successful in building a foundation to prepare so many of us for college and the future. I know a few and have heard of a number of B.I. alumni that have moved on to become CEOs of large corporations, high ranking military leaders, and others that are owners of small businesses. A common theme among them is that they believe in protecting their people and improving their people and way of life. That is what a good leader should do, and I believe B.I. turns out leaders in abundance. I have and will continue to volunteer and give financially to B.I. because I believe in what the school delivers to its students, which is the future for us all, old, young, and yet to be. Because I received so much from B.I., I believe in giving back for what I can never fully repay. Moving forward (Advance Always), B.I. will continue to grow and teach our children and grandchildren the most important aspects of life: God, Family, and Education. In order to grow and serve our students, B.I. will need to grow the physical footprint. Please consider giving to B.I. with any means you are capable: volunteering, becoming active in the alumni association, athletic boosters, contributing to the Annual Fund, or through planned giving or future campaigns. All of this helps the school, and also helps provide financial aid through the Annual Fund for those deserving future B.I. grads that can't afford this type of quality leadership foundation."
