The student must formally apply for a scholarship by completing the four requirements below. All requirements as stated must be in the admissions office before a student will be considered. Financial need will not be a factor in the awarding process and should not be referred to in the essay. This is an academic, merit-based scholarship, and the student must have an overall grade average in the 90's for the seventh grade and the first half of the eighth grade to be considered. We will be receiving these grades directly from the student's school.
The requirements for applying for a scholarship are as follows:
- A 200 word essay on the topic "Tell us about a person who has been a positive influence in your life. Describe the effect they have had on you." On the essay paper, please provide your name, full address (including county/city, state, and zip code), current school, and parish (if applicable).
- A letter of recommendation from the student's eighth grade teacher. (In schools that are departmental, a letter from one academic teacher would suffice). Again, the student needs to ask the teacher to send this letter to us.
- Bishop Ireton must be selected as the student's first choice on the High School Test Registration Form under part 3.
- The student must take the Arlington Diocesan Placement Test. For students enrolled in diocesan Catholic schools, the test is given in early December. For all other students, the test is given in early December and in the middle of January. Mailing in the High School Test Registration Form enrolls a student for this test.
All essays and letters of recommendation should be sent to Mr. Peter Hamer, Director of Admissions, Bishop Ireton High School. A letter will be sent to each applicant on, informing him/her of the status of the application. The due date for all 4 requirements is 3:00 PM on Friday, January 15, 2016
