Course content will focus on the political, economic, religious, social, and cultural development of history with emphasis given to geography.  Cause and effect relationships are explored, and comparisons and contemplations between the past and present are discussed to make our history more relevant and meaningful to each student. Since every person is his/her own historian and interprets history in light of one’s own experience, this course will concentrate on making history come alive.

Communication with parents is paramount in developing a cooperative and enriching learning environment for the student both at home and at school.  I have an open door policy and am always willing to meet with any parent or student.  If you have a question, comment, concern, suggestion, or would like to set up a conference, feel free to contact me at HoloubekB@BishopIreton.org  or drop by K-215 from 3:30 to 4:30 pm M – F.

Materials for class include the textbook World History: The Human Experience, a three (3) ring binder notebook with paper, pens for classwork, and pencils for SCANTRON quizzes/tests.  The textbook, notebook, and writing utensils are required in class everyday.  All lecture notations will be recorded in the notebook in conjunction chapter work.

Grades are based on a point system.  Each letter grade is calculated by the percentage of the points earned against the points available in the grading period.  Points are derived from quizzes, tests, homework, classwork, projects, etc.

Mid-quarter and quarterly grades are determined based on the results of scores earned on tests, quizzes, homework, projects, etc.  Each chapter will be divided approximately into the following point values:  Tests/Projects 45%, Homework/Classwork 35% Quizzes 20%.  Quarterly grades will be used in the determination of the semester grades as indicated below.

Assignments (homework, classwork, projects, papers) are posted on my web site at www.BishopIreton.org.  All assignments are the responsibility of the student (not the teacher) and are to be completed during the allotted time.  If the student is absent, it is imperative that they refer to their class calendar, my homework website, or contact a classmate for missed assignments.  Students with an excused absence from the office must submit their homework on the first day back to school.  Any non-excused late assignments will be eligible for 92% (B) of the grade the day of the due date.  Late assignments turned in the following day will be eligible for only 85% (C) of the grade, with 70% (D) eligible for the third to seventh day.  Failure to submit late work after seven school days will result in a zero.

Tests/quizzes (comprised of chapter lectures, discussions, and homework) are to be taken on the date given in pencil on SCANTRON.  Students are to remain seated and silent during a test.  If a student needs to ask a question or leave his/her seat, they must first raise their hand and be given permission by the teacher.

Make-up tests/quizzes are the responsibility of the student, not the teacher.  Make-ups will be conducted in the Testing Center.  Students must first contact the teacher to make up any missed tests/quizzes/exams within seven days upon their return to school.  Along with multiple-choice, missed tests/quizzes will also comprise of different analytical and objective essay questions.  Failure to make up the assessment in seven school days will result in a zero.
