Each student is responsible for completing
all in-class assignments, quizzes, and tests. Should a student be absent from
any class, the student should see the teacher on the day he/she returns to
school (even if the class does not meet that day) to make arrangements to make
up missed work. Since assignments often build on previous ones, it is
imperative that missed or incomplete work be made up as soon as possible.
Students should plan to take advantage of the after-school computer lab.
1. Students are
expected to enter the classroom quietly, sit at their assigned seats and await
instructions. They are not allowed to touch
the computers until directed to do so.
2. Students will place
their backpacks either against the wall.
No student is allowed to keep their backpack on their person or under
their workstation.
3. Before class
begins, everyone must ensure that he/she conforms to the Bishop Ireton uniform
policy.
4. Every class begins
with the Direction of Intention which is said while standing reverently. Further directions will be given immediately
following the prayer.
5. Learning Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 textbooks are provided. These textbooks are not to leave the
classroom nor are they to be written in for any reason. These books should be handled with great care
as they are school property. Please see
the Syllabus for information about the homework text.
6. Students are
expected to remain quiet while instructions are being given. Students who wish to speak need to raise
their hand, wait to be recognized, and then they may speak – one at a time.
7. Only one student at
a time may be excused from the classroom (lavatory break, etc.). No one will be excused from the classroom
without exchanging the student ID for a hall pass. Students may not leave the classroom during a
quiz, test, or examination.
8. Each student may
work only in his/her directory/file on the Bishop Ireton High School computer
network and is responsible for maintaining the security of his/her personal
password. If any student is found to be working in, using, or scanning another
student’s directory/file in the computer lab, both students will be considered
to have engaged in academic dishonesty, will receive a grade of zero on the
work in question, and will be subject to the penalties for such behavior
contained in the student handbook. This same policy will apply to abusing
e-mail privileges or attempting to use storage devices from outside of school
without the expressed permission of a faculty member.
9. Playing games, and
using e-mail and/or the web browser in class is prohibited unless expressly
allowed by the teacher.

The majority of the coursework will be completed in the
classroom. Missing and/or incomplete
work MUST be done in a school computer lab under the supervision of a
teacher. A few homework assignments may
be given.
Students should be prepared to take any
quizzes or tests missed on the day they return to school following a one-day
absence. It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with the
teacher to make up work, quizzes, or texts missed during an excused absence of
more than one day as soon as possible after returning to school. The teacher
bears no responsibility to assist students in making up work missed due to
unexcused absences.
Grades
Grades for
assignments will be determined on a point basis. Points are assigned to each
chapter exercise, practice exercise, quiz, test, class participation and, if
applicable, independent projects. Grades
will be assigned based on the percentage of possible points earned and
converted to letter grades according to the Bishop Ireton High School grading
scale. Grades will reflect the completeness and quality of the work submitted,
the degree to which directions were followed, and the neatness and manner of
presentation. The class participation grade (representing 5% of the course grade)
will reflect a general assessment of the student’s preparation for learning by
having required materials, paying attention in class, making worthwhile
contributions to class discussions and the progress of the class.
